DTF and DTG printing

How we print

You bring the design, and we’ll work out the best way to print it. Most jobs are printed with DTF, and we use DTG when a design suits it better.

Lots of printing goes by the names DTF and DTG, but the quality varies a lot. We use the latest, most advanced versions of both, fine-tuned and tested in our own Wollongong workshop, and a real person checks every design before it prints.

Why our prints look better

  • Years of print know-howWe started out screen printing and have moved fully to digital: DTF for most jobs, and DTG where a design suits it. We’ve learned what each method does best, and DTF came out as the best all-rounder.
  • Set up in our own workshopWe look after our own colour calibration, inks, films and heat settings, and test them on the garments we sell, so colours come out true and prints last.
  • Your design, made print-readyWe specialise in getting the best out of your design before it prints. Often that means removing a background or coloured area you didn’t mean to print, or tidying fine details.
  • No setup feesNot on any print, whatever the size of your order. Simple fixes to your design are free. If it needs real graphic work, our Artwork Starter Pack is an optional add-on, and we only add it if you approve.

DTF

Direct to film

Our go-to for most prints. Printed onto a film with water-based ink, then heat-applied to the garment. We prepare each design by hand on our own setup, tuned in our workshop over years, so it looks sharp, feels good and moves with the fabric. You won’t get these exact prints anywhere else.

Many people compare it to the classic screen print look, without the screen setups or added costs, so small runs, samples and single tees are no problem. Designs heavy with ink can feel a little firmer at first, and soften with wear.

  • Classic print look and feel
  • No setup costs at all, and no minimums
  • Unmatched durability, flexibility and vibrant colour
  • Works on a wide range of fabrics
  • Great for branding, logos, fashion and workwear

DTG

Direct to garment

When a design needs it. A printer puts water-based ink straight onto the garment, for a soft, natural feel.

It shows wear sooner than DTF and can take on a faded, worn-in look over time, especially in a hot wash or the dryer. Washed cold, inside out and line dried, it lasts well and stays strong.

  • Photo prints and album cover art
  • Big poster-style designs with large blocks of ink
  • Gifts, promos, and bucks and hens party shirts
  • Some designs on white or light shirts
  • 100% cotton t-shirts only

What we fix before it prints

Every design is checked by a real person, and we prepare it to print at its best. For example:

  • A white or coloured box behind your logo, taken away so only the logo prints
  • Text or lines that would disappear on your garment colour, changed so they show
  • Fine detail too thin to hold up in the wash, strengthened
  • Low-resolution files that would print blurry, flagged before anything prints

You’ll see every change on your artwork approval before we print.

You don’t need to choose: we use DTF, the most hard-wearing, unless your design is better printed with DTG. Questions? Ask for a quote or chat with us.

Looking after your print

Wash at 40° or below on a delicate cycle, inside out, with a mild detergent (DTG prints always need the delicate cycle). Line dry rather than tumble dry, and don’t iron directly over the print. More in Care and Returns.
